Fine Line Tattoo Questions
Fine line tattoos use thin needles to make delicate, precise lines with little or no heavy shading. They suit small designs, script, florals and minimal line work. The difference from a regular tattoo is the line weight: thinner lines and lighter shading instead of bold outlines.
Thin lines can soften and spread a little over the years, more than bold lines do. A design with room to breathe holds up better than one packed into a tiny space, and the sun is the biggest cause of fading. Keep a new tattoo out of the sun for at least 2 weeks, and always use sunscreen after that.
Often they are quicker, because fine line pieces tend to be small, so there is less time in the chair. Every tattoo hurts, the difference is how much, and placement matters most. More on tattoo pain.
The minimum shop charge is $120 plus tax for 15 minutes or less with one needle, and $150 plus tax for 15 to 45 minutes. Anything beyond 45 minutes is charged at the artist's hourly rate plus a $40 shop fee, then tax. Moose charges $200 an hour, Kylie and Keith $150 an hour. Deposits and other questions.
